THE BRAND
Visual Distraction is a berlin-based brand, originally founded in London 2019, by Karina Cassidy. It is a one-woman business, where each piece is designed and constructed with care in a home studio, taking pride in delivering refined products.
Visual Distraction showcases a range of upcycling methods, constantly experimenting with new techniques to keep the work evolving.
THE VISION
Our vision is to create unique fashion beyond the boundaries of fast fashion. From sourcing the material and supplies, to the end product and what it is delivered in, sustainability is at the forefront. We stitch together recycled items from Europe that have already lived their own story, and combine them into power pieces for life.
THE PROCESS
Secondhand is the answer. From our pattern cutting process to the threads, secondhand resources are used wherever possible. The majority of our machinery and tools have been handed down by my talented grandma, to extend her sustainable lifelong work into another business. Our packaging is 100% recyclable, and hand printed with environmentally friendly ink.
UPCYCLED PIECES
The excitement around upcycling begins with the mystery of not knowing what you will come across, and then the challenge of transforming each item uniquely into something new.
The fabrics are repurposed from existing clothing and where possible, even metals, chains and zips are extracted from malfunctioning handbags and jewellery. This is why the upcycled pieces are hard to recreate, and are mostly fixed sizing. the purchasing of new metals, such a eyelets, and thread is necessary sometimes to supplement certain products.
ORIGINALS
Our original designs use end-of-line and vintage fabrics, or small pieces of scrap fabrics from other up cycling projects. This means that although the designs can remain the same, the specific colourways are likely to change every few months.
APPOINTMENT
If you are based in Berlin, or visiting, and would like to have a personal shopping experience where you can try pieces on, or be measured for a custom fitting piece, please use the contact form to get in touch. Feel free to also bring along any pieces from your wardrobe that are damaged, to chat about how we can extend their life.
